The Lizard Point
Named after the opening track of Brian Eno’s Ambient 4: On Land, The Lizard Point are Conor Devlin (AWMA, Caseworker) and Geoffrey Scott (Slowness). True to their name’s origins, the duo employ piano and guitar to craft elegant instrumentals that evoke a nocturnal, pastoral space, vivid enough to step inside.

Named after the opening track of Brian Eno’s Ambient 4: On Land, The Lizard Point are Conor Devlin (AWMA, Caseworker) and Geoffrey Scott (Slowness). True to their name’s origins, 1 paints an evocative landscape filled with unique locales. Each track feels like its own unique lens on an imagined place, tapping into the remnants of what feels like a collective memory. The duo employ piano and guitar to craft elegant instrumentals that evoke a nocturnal, pastoral space, vivid enough to step inside.
Recorded at Monte Vallier’s Ruminator Audio studio in San Francisco, many of the songs originated with parts that Geoff played on a piano that once belonged to Charlie Chaplin, before Conor coloured the pieces using the studio’s huge array of amplifiers and guitars. The raw songs were captured on tape, then the duo developed the arrangements, employing samples and found sounds, before the album was mastered by legendary producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Daniel Johnston, Urge Overkill).
Biography
The Lizard Point is Conor Devlin (AWMA, Caseworker) and Geoffrey Scott (Slowness). Conor is based in Chexbres, Switzerland, and Geoffrey in San Francisco. Most of the songs originated with Geoff at the piano, who then shared them with Conor for colouring with guitar. As the songs piled up, themes started to develop and it felt like an album was on the cards. Both had a long history of recording with Monte Vallier, so he was the obvious choice when it came to getting everything on tape. Using Charlie Chaplin’s piano and the huge array of amplifiers and guitars at Monte’s Ruminator Audio studio in San Francisco, the album was recorded over two separate three-day sessions. During the first session the basic songs were captured on tape, titled according to the images they brought to mind. The second three-day session focused on enhancing the images in a cinematic way – adding sonar noises to ‘South, With Endurance’, for example, or someone speaking in French to ‘French Song’. After sitting on the tapes for a few months, the album was eventually mastered by Kramer, who brought the eleven songs together into a suite.
